“Lucca is a big part of my life”
This is what Joe Dever wrote when announcing that he could not physically participate, for health reasons, in the 2016 edition of Lucca Comics & Games. But the Master of Lone Wolf was still among us that year, and in all the years that followed, because he had become part of the festival’s life, more than perhaps he could ever have imagined.
Brilliant writer, lively wit and revolutionary game designer, Joe Dever has indeed changed our view on world-narrative; the saga that brought him international fame has indelibly marked the way in which we are now passionate about fantasy and more.
“Lucca is a big part of my life” he said back in 2015, when he received the Lifetime Achievement Award and left his handprints in our Walk of Fame.
He added: “I’m glad that now I’ve become a part of its story.”
Joe Dever was one of the most eminent figures in the world of modern fantasy: creator of Lone Wolf (in Italy: Lupo Solitario), prolific writer and game designer, he brought gamebooks back in vogue, and added a video game, role-playing game and other cross-media content to the universe dedicated to his character.
He was one of the first authors to understand how stories could complement each other on different platforms. A great friend of the festival, Lucca Comics & Games and the Dever family are proud to promote the Joe Dever Award.
